Ciao a tutti,
Summer season is still in full swing here in Italy, although temperatures are finally down to a more manageable 30C/86F in Rome. Our week break in Sicily at the end of June feels like a lifetime ago and I’ve sworn off spending July & August in Rome to my partner Andrea about 10 times a day!
If you are only able to visit Italy during the summer, don’t fret. There are some wonderful destinations that I would recommend! Last year we spent a week on the wonderful La Maddalena archipelago in Sardinia and it is true paradise for beach lovers.
So here’s a collection of ideas to help inspire your research for an Italian summer. Next year I’ll hopefully take my own advice - we’ll be in the Umbrian countryside in early June for our wedding and then honeymoon planning in July awaits.
How to spend a week in La Maddalena
I’m not kidding - the water really IS that clear and beautiful. I still think it’s the most stunning waters I’ve ever swam in. When we visited La Maddalena Sardinia last year, it was really difficult to find information online. There’s a few blog posts and outdated magazine articles but that’s about it. With this in mind, I thought it might be helpful to write about our experiences to help you plan a wonderful holiday there. If you’re into a heap of sightseeing, this probably isn’t the right place for you. But if you want to swim at incredible beaches and totally unwind, then I can’t think of a better location.
Or why not head to malvasia grape covered Salina in Sicily ?
Or venture to the pretty island of Ponza just a few hours from Rome
Or visit wonderful Puglia!
Have you discovered our new website Italian Wine Tales?
My partner Andrea and I are studying our Italian Sommelier Course and have launched a website all about Italian Wine. Use it to discover what to drink when you’re holidaying in Italy or what to buy online when you return home. You can sign up to our weekly newsletters for little Italian wine tips here:
That’s it for now amici! My Untold Italy Tours partner in crime Katy arrives in town today and we are in for some fun adventures this week so stay tuned for news of that. Corinna (author of the Glam Italia Series) is also in town so a fun Roman dinner awaits us!
Buona settimana,
