Ciao amici,
How are you? I hope wherever you are in the world, you’re keeping cool (or warm!) Here in Rome, temperatures don’t seem to drop lower than 35C/95F and whilst I’m used to hot Australian summers, it hits differently in Italy. Maybe it’s the cobblestones that retain the heat, the lack of air-conditioning, or the humidity. Whatever the case, it’s hot and if you can avoid visiting in the summer then I highly recommend it!
Next week, I’m sending out my very first paid newsletter. Grazie mille if you’ve signed up - it means a lot! The July paid newsletter will share some family recipes from Andrea’s Nonna Amalia, some travel ideas about what to do in Rome in the summertime, and a Q&A from a reader who wrote to me recently for some travel advice. I’ll be doing this every month for my paid subscribers, so if you have a question, just write to me!
Of course, if you are unable to subscribe at the moment, I will continue to send occasional free monthly newsletters too.
Today, I wanted to talk to you about one of my favorite Italian regions: Umbria. We like it so much that we’re getting married there next year! In fact, we’re heading up to this wild, green region next weekend for our wedding menu trial. All of this got me thinking there was no matter time to share my new Umbrian travel guides with you, than now.
8 Reasons Umbria is Worth Visiting
From few crowds to amazing food & wine (hello truffles and Sagrantino), to incredibly pretty hilltop towns, and amazing local traditions still followed today, there are really endless reasons to visit Umbria.
Read about them in my new guide if you’re travel planning for an Italian trip and not sure where to go.
Why you need to visit Gubbio
I might be a little bit biased since we’re getting married in Gubbio, but I fell head over heels for this medieval town when we visited this year. It truly feels like stepping back in time and there are hardly any tourists especially compared to nearby Tuscany. Find out more in my blog.
Where to stay in Umbria?
It’s a big region, so you’ll want to understand where to base yourself for your trip. Will it be the capital Perugia? Flower obsessed Spello? Close-to-Rome Orvieto? Or hilltop Todi? Have a read of my blog with suggestions on the best bases and accommodation.
Visit Umbria with me in 2023/2024
Inspired to visit this wonderful, more off-the-beaten-track region? We have just 3 places left on our 2023 Fall Umbria Tour with Untold Italy! We’ll visit some of my favorite wineries, hilltop towns, best restaurants, local farms, and even participate in the olive oil harvest at my friend’s agriturismo.
That’s it for now! If you visit Umbria, be sure to let me know what you think.
